Cossart Design's tips on how to prepare your table for fall

  1. Color is Key

Before you begin setting your table for fall, you’ll want to start thinking about the color scheme to build your table setting. We selected our favorite Abbiamo Tutto Woodlands dinnerware, which showcases a simple white and green scheme with a pop of tan. We thought this simple yet elegant scheme of the trees and deer could easily transition into any Thanksgiving tablescape.

Go on… select your favorite china that you haven’t used in years, or just pick up your everyday dinnerware and transform it to a table setting just for fall. Our next steps are key to really dressing up that everyday dinnerware!

2. Layer the Textiles

Starting from the base layer, we selected a round, woven seagrass placemat which we topped with a faux boxwood placemat. The contrast between the two textures really sets the tone for the table. We incorporated a simple gingham/plaid napkin with fall colors of cream, tan, yellow and orange. Creating a balance of textiles and placing them throughout the table really sets the tone for the base of the table.

If you choose to use a table runner or table cloth, make sure to build the next layer with a contrast of textiles whether it be a woven placemat or a glass charger.

3. Dress it up with Dinnerware

Since we wanted our main focus to be the Abbiamo Tutto Woodlands pattern, we decided to keep the contrasting dinnerware simple. We selected Casafina’s Wicker Park White dinner and salad plates. We topped each salad plate with an appetizer plate and bowl in the Woodlands pattern. You can choose to add any accessories to fill the appetizer bowls, here we selected small lemons. Incorporating the lemons ties the table scheme back to the yellow flowers in the centerpiece. You can also showcase your serving pieces to really make up your table for fall and your upcoming guests.

If you don’t have all the appetizer plates and bowls, pull out some stemless wine glasses and use those to top your salad plates. You can accessories those glasses with any unique item of your choice, from small pumpkins to artichokes.

4. All about the Centerpieces

We created a unique fall centerpiece showcasing many colors of fall; autumn oranges, pops of light yellow, green mums, acorns, berries, and pussy willows. Most of the time floral arrangements are the main centerpiece, but we chose to add a pair of distressed, grey candlesticks flanking either side of the floral. Incorporating a few gold candle votives to the base of the floral arrangement creates a contrast of materials and allows your eyes to flow along the table.

You can add any type of candlesticks, candle votives and floral arrangements to match your scheme. Make sure you are creating a centerpiece with various heights and dimension. Get creative with books, acrylic stands, or unique items you want to use within your design.
