Should I reupholster or buy new furniture?
Do you love the piece you are thinking about reupholstering? Does it have sentimental value to you? These are questions to ask yourself when considering upholstery. However, there’s no straightforward “yes” or “no” answer to this question. Rather, it depends on unique factors, such as your timeline, taste, and goals for your space. While there are pros and cons to both options, many people underestimate the upsides of reupholstering furniture, which include customization, quality, cost, sustainability, sentimental value, and more.
What’s the difference between upholstery and reupholstery?
Upholstery refers to the materials that make up “soft” chairs, sofas, headboards, and other furniture. They include fabric, padding, webbing, and springs. The word also refers to the craft (and trade) of providing furniture with these materials. We do create new, upholstered pieces of furniture for clients and are happy to help you design your dream occasional chair, ottoman, bench, sofa, sectional, pillows, or bed! Reupholstery involves re-covering existing furniture that has previously been covered with new materials to give it a refreshed or updated high quality new look. Reupholstery may also involve structural repairs and furniture refinishing. Do you have a piece you love but may need a little face lift? We are here to breathe new life into your tried-and-true favorites. Together, we will source a new fabric and our team will handle the rest!
How does it work?
- Email our design team photos of the piece(s) you are considering for reupholstery. Please include images of the front, back, and side of your furniture. If possible, please include measurements of your furniture piece(s).
- Once we receive your images, we will be able to determine how much fabric yardage you will need for the project.
- At Cossart Design, we manage your project from start to finish! We have access to hundreds of fabric options and will assist you with making the best choice to recover your piece(s) with.
- After we determine your fabric choice, our team will order your yardage and send it with your piece to our workroom to be reupholstered.
- Once your piece is complete, we will schedule it for pickup or delivery, whichever you prefer!
What is the price of reupholstery services?
Pricing for upholstery includes your labor and fabric costs. Pricing is different for every project! There are additional fees for furniture pickup and delivery.
